Fuzión Dance Artists is a contemporary
dance company influenced by various dance
forms collaborating with artists, individuals,
and communities to share movement that expresses
the desires, struggles, and celebrates the
human spirit through educational programming
and performances.

As Sarasota’s
1st Contemporary Dance Company, Fuzión
Dance Artists was founded by Leymis Bolaños
Wilmott and Rachael Inman. The two collaborate
with professional artists within their respective
communities to inform and educate audiences
young and old through various dance genres
in contemporary approach. As they choreograph
and instruct Wilmott and Inman aim to provide
a safe environment for the expression of ideas
for all involved.
Appearing
seasonally at the John and Mable Ringling
Museum of Art’s Historic Asolo Theatre,
other regional venues have been The Players
Theater, Manatee Players Theatre, Asolo Theater,
The Backlot, Village Cabaret, Shaw Center’s
Manship Theatre, University of South Florida,
New World School of the Arts, Florida State
University, University of Florida, University
of Kentucky, Webster University, South Florida
Museum, and the Birmingham Children’s
Theatre. National venues have included the
John F. Kennedy Center, Merce Cunningham Studio
Theatre, Koger Center for the Arts, Chicago
Theatre Building, and the Ailey City Group
Theatre.
Working year round,
the company offers residencies, in-school
performances, master classes, as well as partnerships
with local artistic and community organizations.
Fuzión Dance Artists has provided educational
outreach to Girls, Inc., the YMCA, Boys and
Girls Club, PRODIGY, Kaleidoscope –
CHAC, Women’s Resource Center, PACE
School for Girls, Pines of Sarasota and Senior
Friendship Center as well as area schools.
In just Sarasota and Manatee county schools
for the 2008-2009 year, Fuzión reached
approximately 1,800 students K-12 of various
abilities.
In their forth season,
the company is broadening their artistic voices,
not only in their local communities but throughout
the southeast region. Inspired to choreograph
works that fulfill a vision to create eclectic
performances through the blending of various
dance forms with modern dance we seek to collaborate
with artists who are open to new ideas. One
such collaboration continues with renowned
composer/ polyartist Francis Schwartz; an
on-going project entitled “Kinda’
Cage-y”, as homage to composer John
Cage and his relationship with Merce Cunningham
the work employs “improvisation and
chance”. The work has now been shown
world wide as part of the John Cage Trust.
It was presented in a filmed version at the
French National Marc Chagall Museum in Nice.
Fuzión Dance
Artists is in a growth spurt with our Board
of Directors who are artists, scholars,
and educators living in various communities.
The company is currently based in Sarasota/Bradenton
and made up of talented area Dancers.
The company also works with seasonal dancers
that are located through out the country and
work on a project basis. Other components
of the company is to the continue fostering
Fuzion2 – a student base company for
pre-professional dancers which provides an
internship position with our company (a not-for-profit
501 (c) (3) status organization), opportunities
to train with dance professionals weekly,
gain arts administrative skills, present work,
as well as perform.
SRQ Premiere
Magazine* has teamed up with Fuzión
Dance Artists' again for 2009 Hot List Event
held at the Sarasota Opera Theater on September
18th, for more information visit our performance
page. Last years event was a success with
a commissioned piece by the SRQ Premiere Magazine
which allowed for Artistic Director Leymis
Bolaños Wilmott to created a new dance
based on 6 current, social topics that were
"the talk of the town" in our community.
Ms. Wilmott collaborated with local composer
Edward Cosla to create an original score for
the piece. The piece premiered at Sarasota
Opera Theater and was also part of Fuzión
Dance Artists season concert at the Historic
Asolo Theater.
